Uranquinty Power Station is a 640 MW open-cycle, gas fired power plant. The project is located at Uranquinty, southwest of Wagga Wagga, New South Wales. ERM Power is the lead developer, project manager and construction manager. ERM Power has sold its equity interest in the project but will continue as the construction manager until completion and start of commercial operation.
Uranquinty will distribute safe, reliable, clean and cost-competitive electricity for New South Wales homes and businesses.
This station will have the capability to quickly respond to customer demand and market conditions helping meet NSW growing peaking power requirements.
This station will be fuelled by environmentally friendly gas saving 50% of the greenhouse gas emissions and 90 % of the water that an equivalent coal-fired generator would produce helping Australia respond to the challenges of climate change.
Over 200 jobs have been created during construction. Commercial operations will commence in November 2008.

COMMUNITY LIAISON GROUP (CLG) UPDATES
NewGen Power is committed to working with the community to ensure that the Uranquinty Power Station benefits the entire region. Development of the power station is expected to deliver significant economic and community benefits, creating up to 200 jobs during construction and a smaller permanent workforce once operational.
To assist us to meet the needs of the community and ensure issues are responded to in a timely manner, we have established systems to receive feedback, and procedures for responding to concerns raised by members of the community.
As part of this system a Community Liaison Group has been established to interact with the community on the impacts of the project on the community.
A 24-hour toll-free phone number, a mail and an email address has also been set up to register comments, feedback, issues or complaints:

ENVIRONMENT
Gas fired power generation is one of the cleanest sources of energy, with significantly lower greenhouse emissions compared to coal. The Uranquinty Power Station will produce 30% less greenhouse emissions than a similar coal-fired power station.
NewGen has received environmental approval for Uranquinty Power Station. NewGen has also undertaken a number of commitments to minimise any environmental or aesthetic impact of the power plant – including landscaping and tree planting to enhance the visual amenity.
The plant will require minimal water, and will be designed with a water demineralisation plant and a fully lined evaporative pond. No water will be discharged from the site.
